A Tribute to YSR – Invincible in life, invincible in death…

Dear All,

The last three days have been the saddest days of my life. The turn of events was unbelievable...I was in shock ...I was in denial...I kept telling myself that this is impossible…I thought it was a bad dream which would break soon and I would wake up again to see that YSR is smiling as usual…I kept mulling over again and again to find reason in what happened…because I always believe there is a reason for everything. After thinking for hours and spending sleepless nights, passing through phases of primal rage, anger and grief, it slowly started making sense to me.

If you recount YSR’s life, a few things stand out. He was always facing the odds. He has been fighting all his life. No other leader in contemporary India faced so much opposition to one’s success and existence. He had all the merit to be a great leader (unlike some who adopt backdoor methods). He was self-made. Yet, he faced unusual opposition. Ever since he became an MLA at age 28, people have been trying to suppress him. These people include PV Narasimha Rao, Kotla Vijayabhaskara Reddy, Marri Chenna Reddy, and Chandrababu Naidu. I am sure these are all second grade leaders who were afraid of him, who knew he had it in him to be a winner. His never losing an election stands testimony to that. I particularly remember the 1996 election where all of the above, together with SP Umesh Chandra, tried their best to defeat him. But YSR is invincible.

YSR was a true leader in that he cared for his subjects. And indeed, his ascent to the post of Chief Minister was only natural. And again, if one observes carefully, he faced so much opposition in his career as chief minister which is beyond any mortal’s capability. A group of people, including two ungrateful newspapers, behaved as if all hell has broke loose. I was appalled how even some educated people (I guess only literate but not educated) could even support a backstabber and an outright ‘420’ character but not a chief minister who was elected democratically and loved by the common man. I am sorry to say that some of these were from my own friends. I guess that most of the people who are educated (with MS and MD degrees) are so self consumed that they fail to understand and appreciate bigger truths in life. I respect the common man for his love and support for YSR and the ability to see the merit clearly.

Naxalites did not have it in them to harm him. Even the ugly brains of Ramoji Rao and Chandrababu Naidu together with scores of other so called intelligent and selfish people did not have it in them to make even a slightest of difference to his greatness. The unholy alliance of “Mahakootami”, a pack of jokers, could not stop him from coming to power, the second time, in 2009. He was invincible. True to his name, ‘Raja’sekhar Reddy was the king of his times.

The last 6 years have been too good to be true. The rains were on time, the farmers were happy and the common man was being taken care of like the way it should be. He had endeared himself to people by serving the poorest of the poor rather than catering to an elite. But it was so good to be true; it had to come to an end.

I do not even blame YSR for taking that fateful flight that day. I know he was not a simple individual now but a ray of hope for millions of people. I had fleeting thoughts that he had been reckless in opting to fly that fateful day but then I realized that this is the quality that made him what he is. There is no going back for him and that is what he has always been. A warrior who never shows his back to the enemy. A man who always keeps his word.

In death he has won again. He disappeared and did not show his lifeless body to us since a lifeless YSR is inconceivable. Millions of his supporters could not have tolerated that sight. He did not give his opponents the satisfaction of seeing him as a mere mortal, one who could be defeated or killed. He is a winner and a true leader. From now, he will live in millions of hearts as god. For his opponents, who could not ever defeat him in life or death, he has delivered his final blow. Their life, from now, is a perpetual misery. They will still have to face YSR, the god and they know they already lost.

YSR is invincible, in life and death.

For there will be no one like him, ever again.

May his soul rest in peace
